On Coming Home…

October 5th, 2006 by meg in Homemaking and Recent

As most of you know, I am a stay at home wife and mother. I thought I might tell you why, incase you ever wondered.

Biblical Reasons

Frist and foremost my reasons for coming home and staying there revolve around the Word of God. He has set a role for women to fill, a very special role that ONLY a woman can fill. We were created to be helpers to our husbands Gen 2:18

. (mouse over to see verse). It is not good that he be alone, so God created us women especially for our men, to love them and nurture them, to care for their homes and their children as we are commanded in Tit 2:5 . That we are to be obedient to our husbands Eph 5:22 . This does not demean us, or take from us freedom, but rather opens true freedom to us, in that we are free to love as we are made to, and to find joy in being women of purpose.

It seems pretty clear to me that a woman who is seeking to serve her Master, the Lord Jesus, will find in her heart the desire to be at home. If that desire is not there “naturally” the good Lord is faithful to give to those who ask, just as He gave it to me. In order to be a good helper for our husbands, Titus 2 tells us that we must be keepers at home, and obedient to him. Now I have known some men who require their wives to work, I believe it is wrong, but it is not for the woman to rebel against her husband’s wishes. A faithful woman would submit to his desire that she work outside of the home until such time as the Lord changes her husband’s heart and he allows her to come home. Our first priority is serving the Lord, and our second is serving our husbands. After which comes children and home.

My Parents Are Coming!! (And Weight Issues)

October 2nd, 2006 by meg in Homemaking and Recent

I am so excited. My parents are coming to visit for Columbus Day weekend. They haven’t seen the baby since just after she was born, now she is almost 6 months. It will be so great!

In preparation for their visit, I am writing up some menu plans, (I have got to show them all the new things I can make!!), and am cleaning the house pretty thoroughly. Seems like this last weekend sent my house into a down hill spiral! Now I have to catch up, and clean up! But so far the kitchen is looking pretty good and in order, the living room is getting there, and the kids sleeping room is not too shabby. The playroom is ok too. The big issue now is getting the Office/Guest room into a guest room!! lol. It is filled wiht my hubby’s computer stuff, and my craft stuff, and some storage stuff… But I really really! want it to be a guest room by Saturday.

Im sure I can do it!

On a sad note, I went to workout today for the first time in like 2 months (sigh, Im such a slacker here!) and my pilates video wont play!! I guess I might have a good excuse for a new video! That would be a motivator to strat the regimen again too.

You see, when I exercise 30 minutes every other day, I lose about 2 pounds a week the first month, then I have to step the exercise up a notch. I have 30 pounds to lose! Right now I weigh in at 168. I want to weigh 135 or so. So that I can carry my next baby with more ease, feel healthier, and look better. (Just fitting my clothes would be a big plus!) I could lose 30 pounds by December if I get myself in gear. Which as it just so happens, is when I would love to conviece again, though I wont claim to know if that is God’s timing. I sure won’t be “trying” to have one, but if it happened then, I would love it.

So anyone know a good pilates, or basic dance exercise video? I don’t do yoga, and I really don’t like aerobic work outs (I have such a hard time following those), but one day I will HAVE to do the aerobic to keep the pounds coming off.. I’m open for suggestions, what do you all do??

Infant Overalls Pattern

September 19th, 2006 by meg in Homemaking and Recent

Hey all, I can’t seem to find one of these online for free, so I thought I would post here that I am looking for it.

I am looking for a bib overall pattern for an infant (3-12 months) or anywhere in there, preferably aroudn 6 months or 9 months. It is for a girl, but if you can only find a boy’s pattern, well the material might make up for the cut. Let me know if any of you have one or can find one for free!

Id like one in a 3T too, for my son.

Sewing Day is Tuesday!

My Dinner Party

September 18th, 2006 by meg in Recipes and Homemaking and Recent

Well, It went very well. I made Slow Roasted Garlic and Lemon chicken. (It was very bitter, and I didn’t really like it.) But I got the recipe from here and No one else commented on it being bitter, they all ate up. I think they were being polite. It’s too bad that it came out bitter. Anyway, I made fresh Asperagus to go with that, and a Corn Chowder, which turned out very well. Also they brought a nice salad, and the drinks. We also had this amazing chocolate cake. And it is my mother’s recipe, with my frosting ideas. This is the cake:

Double Dutch Chocolate Cake (my creative title!)

1 3/4 Cups flour (all purpose)
2 cups sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 cup BOILING water
1 cup milk soured with vinegar (pour a bit of white vinegar in the bottom of the measuring cup then fill with milk let stand a bit)
1/2 cup oil
1 tsp vanilla
1tsp salt

Mix the dry ingredients together, whisk well.
Mix the wet ingredients (minus the boiling water) together, whisk well, then add the waster, then add all to the dry ingredients.
Incorporate until smooth and very liquidy.

pour into two crisco’d and floured round 8 or 9 inch pans

bake at 350 for approximately 50 minutes, usually takes a bit less than this at my house. Inserted toothpick comes up clean, or with a few crumbles, not wet.

let cake cool in pans for about ten minutes then remove to wire rack let cool untill cool to the touch. Meanwhile make this:

Calling All Cooks…

September 15th, 2006 by meg in Recipes and Homemaking and Recent

Well, I’m looking for some good recipes. I thought I might set up a place to collect some great recipes, namely HERE. I was hoping that everyone would want to send me their most favorite recipe, especially anything on my list of how to make from scratch. I would like to turn this into a contest of sorts, but… perhaps that is too techno savvy for me, unless one (or more) of you would like to team up with me to vote and make and award some kind of icon.

For the recipe collection I will make an eBook, and also list all of the recipes here under the RECIPE category. If we want to make it a contest, then I will have to make all of the recipes in the categories, and decide which ones are best, that might take a while!

Categories:

Baking from scratch (non processed or minimally processed like flour )

Snack Items (granola bars etc)

Dairy Items (making yogurt, cheese etc)

Lunches

Dinners

Any other ideas?

What do you all think? Any info about how to get this around would be good too!
