The Freedom in God’s Sovereignty

November 9th, 2006 by meg in Doctrine/ Theology and Recent

When we think of sovereignty we are considering how God is in control. There are many verses that speak to His control. One great one is 1 Chrn 29:11 and 12 “Everything in the Heavens and Earth are Your’s, O Lord, and this is Your kingdom. We adore you as being in control of everything. Riches and honor come from You alone, and you are the ruler of all mankind. Your hand controls power and might; and it is at Your discretion that men are made great and given strength.” (I believe that is the NIV, I have this one memorized so I didn’t look it up.)

All things are under His ownership and control. Some things specifically mentioned are :
Land : Lev 25:23
Animals wild and domestic: Psa 50:10-12
Silver and Gold: Hag 2:8
Circumstances: Psa 135:6
Our Hearts: Pro 21:1
Our deeds: Isa 40:21-24
Where we live: Act 17:26
Power and Might: 1 Chr. 29:11, 12

There are many MANY more verses that speak to God’s ownership of everything and His control over everything, but these few ought to get your mind thinking. As I was reading these verses I began to see that His sovereignty affords me freedom. Instead of seeing Him as the “big guy in the sky” who is looking down on everything I do in order to judge me, I can see His hand in my daily affairs. It is God who allowed me to lose my keys, and it is He who will help me to find them. It is God who controls the traffic on the street. It is God who works the bad circumstances in my life for His glory. When I fought like cats and dogs with my husband, God’s hand was in it. He not only KNEW but CONTROLLED the situation. Because of that time when we fought so hard, we have been sharpened. God created in me a more gentle and meek spirit, and a sweet submission. He created in my husband a tenderness for me and a strength in his leadership. A tight bond was formed between us, for God brought us through together.

It is this sovereignty that turns our hearts towards Him. No one comes seeking after God unless He first called them, and no one accepts His salvation unless He softens their hearts and gives them the gift of repentance. I think even if God softens our heart for His son, it may be possible to deny Him and choose death.

It is in His sovereignty that there is freedom. Freedom from worry, and freedom from condemnation (for those who are in Christ). You see knowing that He is controlling all events can give us peace. A peace that passes understanding. We can relax and just trust Him. We can stop fighting for growth, and just trust that He is going to complete what He started within us. We can trust that He is going to “work in us both to will and to do.” We can stand firm. Standing firm and renewing our mind are the keys to allowing Christ to go before us and fight the war, to take the victory. When we fight we lose. When we allow God’s sovereign hand to fight, we win, because He already has the victory.

Ahh sovereignty, His might knows no bounds. He is powerful beyond measure and able beyond compare. Thank the Lord, and bless His Holy Name.

Hope I got you all thinking alittle bit about His greatness…

Mark 6:47-52

November 1st, 2006 by meg in Doctrine/ Theology and Homemaking and Recent and Prayer

“And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. For they considered not [the miracle] of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.” Mark 6:47-52

I went to Ladie’s Bible Study this morning and these were the verses for reading. Immediately after reading the verses my questions were “Why didn’t the disciples understand the miracle of the loaves?” (The preceeding verses deal with the feeding of the five thousand, and Jesus praying on the Mountain while He sent the disciples in a boat across the Sea of Galilee to Bethsaida.) And “What was Jesus trying to teach the disciples through those miracles?”

Ten Reasons for the Failing of American Marriages

October 20th, 2006 by meg in Marriage and Doctrine/ Theology and Homemaking and Recent

or

    Ten Reasons for American Divorce

After the first two they are in no particular order (because it is hard to say which ones are more frequent).

1

Taking God out of the Family

When God is taken out of the equation of marriage, the end result is a house built on sand. Some might stand, if the storms aren’t too bad. Most, however, will fall to simple waves. Marriages like this might work if other things are met, especially commitment, and proper authority, but throw any of the other causes for failed marriages into the mix and you are unlikely to withstand even the smallest storm. “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh [but] in vain.” Psl 271:1 .

2

    Lack of Commitment

It is not uncommon these days to see people conisidering relationships temporary. People date one person after the other, supposedly seeking “true love” or “the right fit”. People think nothing of enjoying sexual relations with those they date so flippantly. This temporary relationship is not only damaging to those who engage in them (emotional upheavals!) but to the marriages of those who have engaged in it (and those who didn’t, but who are watching it happen all around and thinking it normal). When marriage is seen as something that can be entered into and escaped from on a whim, it happens more and more. This is directly contradictory to the Word’s expectation of marriage. “Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Mat 19:6 .

Is Jesus an Angel??

October 6th, 2006 by meg in Doctrine/ Theology and Recent

This one question is so easily refuted that it is beyond me how anyone can believe it. Yet, there is a whole “cult” (for lack of a better term) that believe’s it and teaches it. Wondering what that sect is? Its the Jehovah’s Witness. Yup, they think that Jesus was an angel. They came to my door yesterday, and I asked them “what do JW’s say about Jesus?” and their answer was very round about.

This is what they said “Well, we believe he is the Son of God, and our ransomer. That he came from Heaven and died on the cross to save us from our sins.” Sounds pretty normal right? WRONG!… After that I asked them “So do you believe He was an angel?” (because of course I already knew they did, but they were hedgeing answering that one.) and they said “Well yes we do, but He was the Son of God, He was an angel because He came from Heaven.” NOPE wrong again! Well, I then stated “So you do not believe He was God?”
and they said “No he was an angel” And there we have it folks, a false “savior” who has no actual power over sin.

Well, at the time I was caught off guard and did not have my Bible or the appropriate verse handy (shame on me! “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”). This morning however I cracked open my Bible to John 1:1-18

. Within these passages is the answer to Christ’s deity. It is so blatantly obvious, that I just cannot understand how they will gloss over it. I am hoping that they will come back to see if I read their junk, so I can bring up the essential topic once again.

Here is the answer, NO Jesus was not an angel, YES He was/is God, equal in power and glory, and Spirit.
John 1:1

“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
What is the Word?? well skip to verse 14 “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us…” and a bit later the Word become flesh, is named verse 17 “…but grace and truth come by Jesus Christ”.

Well there you have it. It might seem incomprehensible, the Trinity(corrected), but nevertheless it is scriptural.

Signing Off,
Mrs Meg Logan
p.s. there are other verses that address this issue, many others, but this one is pretty blatant, and i think it is sufficient. If you still want to see more verses just mention it in the comments and I will post a list of more.

Prophecy, Tongues, Knowledge For Today??

September 15th, 2006 by meg in Doctrine/ Theology and Recent

MInTheGap has an interesting post up today, entitled “Cultural Invasion: Spiritual Gifts” in which he explains why he reasons that the gifts of prophecy, tongues and healing are no longer functioning in the body of Christ. His reasoning is found in verse 13:8 which reads,

Charity never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they shall fail; whether [there be] tongues, they shall cease; whether [there be] knowledge, it shall vanish away.

and in verse 10 which reads,

But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

MInTheGap reasons that “that which is perfect” is the Bible. I do not refute that the Bible is perfect, but it is not a complete revelation of God, who cannot be known only through words. (If you doubt that statement then think about the scriptures that talk about who can know the heart of God? Only the Holy Spirit knows Him, and therefore we must be baptized with water and the Spirit. The Holy SPirit within us does have a place, that we would be wise to not diminish.) Before you jump off the deep end, let me reiterate that I believe the Bible is not to be added to and in this way it IS COMPLETE, and it IS the Word of God, INFALLIBLE, and therefore perfect. But I do not believe it is the scriptures that this verse is talking about.

Why? Well lets read just a bit further shall we? Read the rest of this entry »
