Been thinking lately about that Ultimate Sacrifice that Christ made. The Father asked Jesus to be obedient unto DEATH. Not just any death, but a painful, humiliating experience. A death of his physical being, AND a separation of his connection to the Father. I’m sure some of you are saying “WHAT?”… well He did declare “Father why hast thou forsaken me?” while He was on that cross.
Did you know that there is a verse which says it pleased the Lord to crush His Son for us? Here :
“Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put [him] to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong [his] days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.” (Isa 53:10 KJV)
and another translation reads
“Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life a guilt offering,he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.” (NIV)
It pleased the Lord to CRUSH His Son, in whom there was no sin, for OUR sin.
Would you crush your son? When we look upon this do we scorn it calling it evil to put a Son without guilt to death for the guilt of others? Or do we see it for the love it really is? The love of self sacrifice. The Love of REDEMPTION.
Would you crush your son? Do you consider that the Lord might require hardship of your kids, in order to save others? When your child is the one hurting, do you become angry with God, asking how he could allow such pain in their lives? Or do you see that He is pleased to crush, that others might live eternally with Him?
Do you think God would not ever bring hardship on a good Christian? Do you think that when painful things come your way you are being punished or worse yet, abused? Perhaps it is really that the Lord is crushing you to save you, or to save others.
The Lord certainly chose to crush Job. The Lord removed the hedge of protection from about Job, and gave permission to Satan to do as he willed, except not to take the man’s life. Job lost EVERYTHING he had.
It pleased God, that Job would suffer, becoming an example to us all. But even beyond that, Why did Job suffer? He suffered to bring glory to God.
Why was the man born blind? Not because his father sinned, or because he had sinned, not so we could learn a lesson… but to bring glory to the Father, through Christ when the man was healed. (John 9:1-4)
Would you crush your son? When the Lord allows pain in your life or the lives of your children, are you embittered? Or do you fall to your face and worship the God “who gives and takes away”? Do you praise His Name in the pain? Are you pleased that the Lord would use you in such a way? Do you “count it all joy”? Do you believe the Lord when He says “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these [things].” (Isaiah 45:7 KJV)
Here is another thing the Lord says about pain and affliction “Behold I have refined thee, but not with silver, I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. For mine own sake will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.” (Isaiah 48:10,11 KJV) He chose you from affliction, affliction which He used to refine you, and why?? For HIS OWN SAKE. To bring Himself glory. He is the only one worth the glory.
Well, get this, it really gets better. When we choose Christ, we get to partake in His glory. He saved us, who were wicked and evil, crushed His perfect Son for us, so that we might be refined, that we might be partakers. Both in His death, and in His eternal life. Do you expect that now that you know Christ, life will be easy? That God will never ask of you something painful? How can we be pleased to be joined with Christ unto eternal life, but refuse to share in the suffering of the Cross?
Take up your cross. When the Lord brings affliction, count it all joy. Fall to your face and praise the Lord who gives and takes away, who creates the good things in life and the bad ones. Praise Him that He might be glorified.
