Friday, November 10th, 2006The Freedom in God’s Sovereignty
Thursday, November 9th, 2006When we think of sovereignty we are considering how God is in control. There are many verses that speak to His control. One great one is 1 Chrn 29:11 and 12 “Everything in the Heavens and Earth are Your’s, O Lord, and this is Your kingdom. We adore you as being in control of everything. Riches and honor come from You alone, and you are the ruler of all mankind. Your hand controls power and might; and it is at Your discretion that men are made great and given strength.” (I believe that is the NIV, I have this one memorized so I didn’t look it up.)
All things are under His ownership and control. Some things specifically mentioned are :
Land : Lev 25:23
Animals wild and domestic: Psa 50:10-12
Silver and Gold: Hag 2:8
Circumstances: Psa 135:6
Our Hearts: Pro 21:1
Our deeds: Isa 40:21-24
Where we live: Act 17:26
Power and Might: 1 Chr. 29:11, 12
There are many MANY more verses that speak to God’s ownership of everything and His control over everything, but these few ought to get your mind thinking. As I was reading these verses I began to see that His sovereignty affords me freedom. Instead of seeing Him as the “big guy in the sky” who is looking down on everything I do in order to judge me, I can see His hand in my daily affairs. It is God who allowed me to lose my keys, and it is He who will help me to find them. It is God who controls the traffic on the street. It is God who works the bad circumstances in my life for His glory. When I fought like cats and dogs with my husband, God’s hand was in it. He not only KNEW but CONTROLLED the situation. Because of that time when we fought so hard, we have been sharpened. God created in me a more gentle and meek spirit, and a sweet submission. He created in my husband a tenderness for me and a strength in his leadership. A tight bond was formed between us, for God brought us through together.
It is this sovereignty that turns our hearts towards Him. No one comes seeking after God unless He first called them, and no one accepts His salvation unless He softens their hearts and gives them the gift of repentance. I think even if God softens our heart for His son, it may be possible to deny Him and choose death.
It is in His sovereignty that there is freedom. Freedom from worry, and freedom from condemnation (for those who are in Christ). You see knowing that He is controlling all events can give us peace. A peace that passes understanding. We can relax and just trust Him. We can stop fighting for growth, and just trust that He is going to complete what He started within us. We can trust that He is going to “work in us both to will and to do.” We can stand firm. Standing firm and renewing our mind are the keys to allowing Christ to go before us and fight the war, to take the victory. When we fight we lose. When we allow God’s sovereign hand to fight, we win, because He already has the victory.
Ahh sovereignty, His might knows no bounds. He is powerful beyond measure and able beyond compare. Thank the Lord, and bless His Holy Name.

Things I Learned from My Mother
Friday, November 3rd, 2006Let me start by saying, my mom isn’t perfect. But your mom isn’t either! This post will not be in the way of the world, pointing out her foibles and faults and bringing dishonor upon her. I am her daughter and I will rise up and called her blessed. She is a wonderful woman who loves the Lord. I will be pointing out all that I have learned and loved about her. Why? Well, she has been on my mind lately, and because not only does she deserve to be known to all who know me, but the world and I are at odds on the issue of honoring parents, so I do this to bring her honor.

Mark 6:47-52

And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. For they considered not [the miracle] of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.” Mark 6:47-52
I went to Ladie’s Bible Study this morning and these were the verses for reading. Immediately after reading the verses my questions were “Why didn’t the disciples understand the miracle of the loaves?” (The preceeding verses deal with the feeding of the five thousand, and Jesus praying on the Mountain while He sent the disciples in a boat across the Sea of Galilee to Bethsaida.) And “What was Jesus trying to teach the disciples through those miracles?”
