Is Jesus an Angel??

This one question is so easily refuted that it is beyond me how anyone can believe it. Yet, there is a whole “cult” (for lack of a better term) that believe’s it and teaches it. Wondering what that sect is? Its the Jehovah’s Witness. Yup, they think that Jesus was an angel. They came to my door yesterday, and I asked them “what do JW’s say about Jesus?” and their answer was very round about.

This is what they said “Well, we believe he is the Son of God, and our ransomer. That he came from Heaven and died on the cross to save us from our sins.” Sounds pretty normal right? WRONG!… After that I asked them “So do you believe He was an angel?” (because of course I already knew they did, but they were hedgeing answering that one.) and they said “Well yes we do, but He was the Son of God, He was an angel because He came from Heaven.” NOPE wrong again! Well, I then stated “So you do not believe He was God?”
and they said “No he was an angel” And there we have it folks, a false “savior” who has no actual power over sin.

Well, at the time I was caught off guard and did not have my Bible or the appropriate verse handy (shame on me! “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”). This morning however I cracked open my Bible to John 1:1-18 . Within these passages is the answer to Christ’s deity. It is so blatantly obvious, that I just cannot understand how they will gloss over it. I am hoping that they will come back to see if I read their junk, so I can bring up the essential topic once again.

Here is the answer, NO Jesus was not an angel, YES He was/is God, equal in power and glory, and Spirit.
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
What is the Word?? well skip to verse 14 “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us…” and a bit later the Word become flesh, is named verse 17 “…but grace and truth come by Jesus Christ”.

Well there you have it. It might seem incomprehensible, the Trinity(corrected), but nevertheless it is scriptural.

Signing Off,
Mrs Meg Logan
p.s. there are other verses that address this issue, many others, but this one is pretty blatant, and i think it is sufficient. If you still want to see more verses just mention it in the comments and I will post a list of more.

This is a tough one, really.
In their “Bible”, the New World Translation, John 1:1 says: “…and the word was _a_ god”.
Two weeks ago I spent 4 hours talking to my dear friends, who happen to be JW’s, and trying to biblically show them that Jesus is God. To no avail. Then I lost my voice completely and had to stay at home (you cannot teach English without voice).
They just do not understand it, and they are gravely deceived by their organization. What for us is beyond any doubt, for them it does not exist.
And you cannot beat them with Bible verses. The only way you may have a break through is to be able to shake their trust in their organization, to show them that they belong to a false prophet.
There is an abundance of help to do this on-line. And it is important – to treat them as souls to win for Christ, with love and respect.
Late Dr Walter Martin specialized in talking to cults. http://www.waltermartin.org is a very good place to start, if you wish to talk to them more.
Blessings in this task to You, Meg

Well thanks Ann, that will be a useful resource I hope!

I have already spoken with one JW for many sessions about Jesus being God. So I am aware of how hard of a nut they ar to crack. It is because they are SO decieved. Perhaps if I bring a language interpreter to the next meeting, addressing that verse in the original language?? I have not looked it up in the Greek yet, but it might be helpful.

Not to pick nits, but it’s “Trinity”, dear, not “trilogy”… that was Lord of the Rings, not Lord of Lords and King of Kings. ;)

In Hebrews, we see that Jesus is superior to any angel.

There are verses that the JWs forgot to change when they printed the New World Translation. Check equip dot com for the Christian Research Institute’s reasoning on it all. I think they had the best list that I remember.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs so here is mine. To make it easier for people to understand me, I am of the Jewish Faith. So that being said, here goes…

The JW’s are just wacko, plain and simple.

As everybody knows, Jews don’t believe Jesus is G-d or the son of G-d. We believe he was a prophet. Nothing more.

Now here’s an interesting fact. When you look up Jesus Christ, the definition in a standard dictionary will say, “The Son of G-d”. If you ever feel like digging, and I mean really digging, the term Jesus Christ does not mean The Son of G-d, but “A Son of G-d” There’s a big difference between the word “The” and “A”.

So when you really think about it, we are all children of G-d.

    Vicki,
JW’s deeply believe that what they know is the truth. The deceived people of this organization should be treated with respect on the simple basis that they are our brothers and sisters in Adam. We owe them that much. They have been deceived.
Now about the things you believe in, that is perfectly fine as long as it is respectful to others. But for the life of me I do not grasp the possibility of not embracing the Gospel, as it is there, in plain view, in all the prophecies of the OT, fulfilled in Jesus.
Are you still waiting then ?
Well, anyway, I do not think that you are the proper person to discuss deity of Christ with anybody, because of where you are coming from. In fact, your understanding of Our Lord is no different than that of Islam…

I think that many of the appearances of the Angel of the Lord in the Old Testament were a pre-incarnate form of Jesus. Think of the angel addressing Abraham before going down to Sodom in Gen. 18, where it says that the Lord appeared to him. The Lord speaks to him, and the Lord was one of those three angels. But the JWs get the wrong end of the stick when they say See? He was an angel! when what they mean is He is not God Almighty! He surely is the Second Person of the Trinity, even though He did appear many times as the Angel of the Lord.
