Infant Overalls Pattern

September 19th, 2006 by meg in Homemaking and Recent

Hey all, I can’t seem to find one of these online for free, so I thought I would post here that I am looking for it.

I am looking for a bib overall pattern for an infant (3-12 months) or anywhere in there, preferably aroudn 6 months or 9 months. It is for a girl, but if you can only find a boy’s pattern, well the material might make up for the cut. Let me know if any of you have one or can find one for free!

Id like one in a 3T too, for my son.

My Dinner Party

September 18th, 2006 by meg in Recipes and Homemaking and Recent

Well, It went very well. I made Slow Roasted Garlic and Lemon chicken. (It was very bitter, and I didn’t really like it.) But I got the recipe from here and No one else commented on it being bitter, they all ate up. I think they were being polite. It’s too bad that it came out bitter. Anyway, I made fresh Asperagus to go with that, and a Corn Chowder, which turned out very well. Also they brought a nice salad, and the drinks. We also had this amazing chocolate cake. And it is my mother’s recipe, with my frosting ideas. This is the cake:

Double Dutch Chocolate Cake (my creative title!)

1 3/4 Cups flour (all purpose)
2 cups sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 cup BOILING water
1 cup milk soured with vinegar (pour a bit of white vinegar in the bottom of the measuring cup then fill with milk let stand a bit)
1/2 cup oil
1 tsp vanilla
1tsp salt

Mix the dry ingredients together, whisk well.
Mix the wet ingredients (minus the boiling water) together, whisk well, then add the waster, then add all to the dry ingredients.
Incorporate until smooth and very liquidy.

pour into two crisco’d and floured round 8 or 9 inch pans

bake at 350 for approximately 50 minutes, usually takes a bit less than this at my house. Inserted toothpick comes up clean, or with a few crumbles, not wet.

let cake cool in pans for about ten minutes then remove to wire rack let cool untill cool to the touch. Meanwhile make this:

Prophecy, Tongues, Knowledge For Today??

September 15th, 2006 by meg in Doctrine/ Theology and Recent

MInTheGap has an interesting post up today, entitled “Cultural Invasion: Spiritual Gifts” in which he explains why he reasons that the gifts of prophecy, tongues and healing are no longer functioning in the body of Christ. His reasoning is found in verse 13:8 which reads,

Charity never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they shall fail; whether [there be] tongues, they shall cease; whether [there be] knowledge, it shall vanish away.

and in verse 10 which reads,

But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

MInTheGap reasons that “that which is perfect” is the Bible. I do not refute that the Bible is perfect, but it is not a complete revelation of God, who cannot be known only through words. (If you doubt that statement then think about the scriptures that talk about who can know the heart of God? Only the Holy Spirit knows Him, and therefore we must be baptized with water and the Spirit. The Holy SPirit within us does have a place, that we would be wise to not diminish.) Before you jump off the deep end, let me reiterate that I believe the Bible is not to be added to and in this way it IS COMPLETE, and it IS the Word of God, INFALLIBLE, and therefore perfect. But I do not believe it is the scriptures that this verse is talking about.

Why? Well lets read just a bit further shall we? Read the rest of this entry »

Calling All Cooks…

September 15th, 2006 by meg in Recipes and Homemaking and Recent

Well, I’m looking for some good recipes. I thought I might set up a place to collect some great recipes, namely HERE. I was hoping that everyone would want to send me their most favorite recipe, especially anything on my list of how to make from scratch. I would like to turn this into a contest of sorts, but… perhaps that is too techno savvy for me, unless one (or more) of you would like to team up with me to vote and make and award some kind of icon.

For the recipe collection I will make an eBook, and also list all of the recipes here under the RECIPE category. If we want to make it a contest, then I will have to make all of the recipes in the categories, and decide which ones are best, that might take a while!

Categories:

Baking from scratch (non processed or minimally processed like flour )

Snack Items (granola bars etc)

Dairy Items (making yogurt, cheese etc)

Lunches

Dinners

Any other ideas?

What do you all think? Any info about how to get this around would be good too!

Regarding Homeschool

September 11th, 2006 by meg in Homeschooling and Recent

OK, call me stupid,

But today I was going through a Kindergarten curriculum with my three year old (yes I know he’s only three but he gets it). Any way, I was going through lesson 9, (keep in mind that this is FIRST YEAR MATH lesson 9!!) And we were doing greater than > and less than < and equal to =. We are going over what it means to be more than, or less or equal. Ok, no biggie, he gets that. Then, they introduce NOT more than NOT less than which look sorta like teh greater than and less than signs with an underscore. (I cant draw them here for some reason.) Anyway… Here’s why Im stupid.

WHICH ONE is WHICH? I always remembered the greater than and less than signs because it “ate” the bigger one… No problem. But the not less than not greater than are confusing. They are supposed to point the opposite way? grumble… I guess Im going to have to admit to my husband that I couldn’t figure it out from the directions and ask him to make it plain! ROFL… I mean sheesh I went to college you would think I would know this one!

And really why are they teaching that in KINDERGARTEN? I mean I didnt learn those signs till third grade or later. But if I want to continue with this otherwise excellent curriculum, then I better teach these, because math always builds on precepts.

Well thats my rant.
