The Christian Church in America is failing in the calling of Christ. We, WE, are failing in the business of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am speaking here, not just to the church as a whole, not just to specific denominations, but to the PARTS of the BODY that make up the whole. We are each individually responsible for the Great Commission. No one who claims to follow Christ is spared this great and mighty calling. Indeed we are all called to serve His will in different ways, some with teaching, some with preaching, some with evangelism, some with healing, some with administration among other gifts. We are all gifted in one way or another, and we often think we are using our gifts to the glory of God simply by going to church faithfully. But as my pastor recently said, God isn’t looking simply for faithfulness, but for FRUITâ¦ the FRUIT of the Spirit. God wants us to GROW UP. Oh, how we shudder to hear it. We are all guilty in one way or another. Some of us refuse to grow up into mature Christians because it means renewing our minds through His Word, and we struggle to read it. Some of us refuse to grow up because we have become complacent, because we are happy where we are, or the always popular, âits in God’s handsâ âHe is coming soon anyway, why do I need to â¦â vote, or speak out, or share the gospel in scary situations? But I am convinced that this is a laziness, covered and condoned by the church in the US. The scripture âlay all your cares at His feetâ is not a license for our laziness. It is still slothfulness. We are a generation of lazy people. Too lazy to fight the great fight, too lazy to stand up when the courts allow abortion, or remove prayer from schools, or condone homosexuality, or any number of abominations which we know are hated by our God. But we sit calmly by watching and waiting for Christ’s return. Praying that the day will tarry, or hasten, but still sitting and doing nothing to bring in the Kingdom of Christ.
The Kingdom of Christ is one of power. But where do we see power manifest in the church? Where do we see the redeeming nature of Christ to restore unity even amongst believers? Instead we are bickering amongst ourselves about doctrinal purity, about baptism, about where we sit in our church. What childish nonsense. Has not Christ called us to be known in the world by our love and forgiveness and unity? Have we not all individually been called to reach the nations? Yet in our very own nation Christianity is sinking. It is not glorified on the tallest mount, it is in the valley of laziness, and childish bickering, and it is walked all over. Our rights, our GOD GIVEN rights are rewritten in congress and the Supreme Courts everyday, but who is standing up? The Homosexuals are standing up!! That is who. And we sit by and watch our country go to hell in a hand basket. How can we serve our God, who is a God of holiness, and purity, and justice, and mercy while we sit idly by watching the sin invade our government, our schools, even our homes! We must stand up for Christ. In this dark hour, we must become unified as the Bride of Christ.
Individually this means living a life with less comfort, and more discipline. To pray and repent, to grow up in the Word, to become true active disciples of the Living God and to do His will on this earth while we still have time. Our lives are each individually important to God, He is watching and knowing all that we think and do, He promises rewards to those who serve Him well, who lose their lives for His sake (and this does not always mean physical death, but self death.) To live our lives the way Christ asks us to, instead of the way we enjoy living. And believe me taking up that cross everyday is no easy or pleasant task. But we can rest in the knowledge of salvation, and in His grace and mercy. Knowing that we are here for but a short while, and that Heaven is on the other side of those gates. While we are here let us fight, not against flesh and blood, not against brothers and sisters, but against princes and principalities, and every evil and lofty thing that exalts itself above the true knowledge of God.
